Tubman claimed this event was the catalyst which gave her occasional visions from God, entrenching in her a deep religious devotion and the courage to embark on her perilous missions to rescue other slaves. Bucktown was the tiny crossroads where a young Harriet Tubman was walloped on the head with an overseer’s metal object, inaccurately thrown at another slave. Unusually, particularly of a map with this broad geographic range, is the depiction of Bucktown, Maryland, on the Eastern Shore in Dorchester County. Along with the rail lines, several regional forts are shown as is the site and date of the (1st) Battle of Bull Run. Operating railroad lines at the time are featured, such as the Washington & Richmond Railroad and the Philadelphia, Wilmington & Baltimore Railroad, among others. Also depicted are several principal towns of the Eastern Shore of Maryland and a few on the Virginia Shore as well. The map is centered around Washington, DC and depicts territory as far north as the Mason-Dixon Line and south to Norfolk, Virginia. This historic piece, titled "Panorama of the Seat of War", features engraved portraits of Commodore Andrew Hull Foote and Admiral Silas Stringham in vignette at the top.
